"The importance of metamorphosis is more apparent than real, however; the essential theme of the poem is passion(pathos), and that gives it more unity than all the ingenious linking and framing devices the poet uses."(603)
Imagine being a child and being fearful of disobeying your parents because they might transform you into an animal or vegetable. If this were the case there would most likely be very few children roaming the earth. What can metamorphosis illustrate to us? It can show us that we have a very forgiving and merciful God. It says that gods would transform the people into to another form due to disobedience. What if God did that to us as a punishment? Many Christians would be scared out of their minds and rightfully so. However, God is the exact opposite. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (John 1:9) God gives us chance after chance when we mess up. He doesn't turn us into an animal or vegetable, instead he gives us grace. So from metamorphosis we can learn that we are blessed to have a God that is forgiving and merciful!

This picture shows a girl transforming into a deer.
"So she sat on, with closed eyes, and half believed herself in Wonderland, though she knew she had but to open them again, and all would change to dull reality." (611)
Everyone has had a time in their life when they were caught daydreaming in class or when their parents were talking to them. Thinking about what they need to do or dreaming about being anywhere other than the place they were currently at. Alice was thinking about being in her Wonderland, but knew at some point she would be snapped back to reality. The question is, what is your wonderland ? Most people would say somewhere on a beach with their toes in the sand and relaxing, or watching their favorite sports team win a championship game. However, at some point we have to face reality. We have to deal with our real lives and our real problems.
"The Navajo people have a very strong emotional bond with the Earth and the plant and animal kingdoms that are so much a part of their everyday lives. Certain animals are so much a part of their everyday lives. Certain animals are more sacred to some individuals, families, and tribes. They believe animals bless, heal, or guide the people and become totem animals."(596)
Different religions view animals and the environment in such a different way than others. Animals are held in such a high regard and are such a huge part of their society. They believe that animals bring wealth and good fortune to their lives. However this is not the case for most Americans view animals. In the US it is safe to say that dogs and cats are some of the most integrated animals in our society. They are often looked at as companions, dogs live in the house, they are fed quality food, and are treated like a member of the family. Why aren't all animals viewed in the same light ? The cow to most people is just a source of food and milk. However in Hinduism, "the cow is seen as a caretaker or maternal figure. Most Hindu respect the cow for her gentle nature which represents the main teaching of Hinduism, non-injury." (Wiki) It's very interesting to compare what different animals mean to different religions and races.
